Welcome Information – Traveller Education Service

Meeting our service

The Traveller Education Service encourages and supports improved access to educational opportunities amongst all Gypsy, Roma and Traveller families. We aim to raise awareness and understanding of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities. This includes culture and lifestyle so schools, agencies and organisations can be more inclusive.

Some of the things the service offers to achieve this include:

  • Supporting families with applications and educational processes
  • Supporting the induction of new pupils (to school or the borough). Also transition between key stages.
  • Delivering one-to-one pupil sessions in school to support academic achievement
  • Assisting with home/school liaison
  • Providing advice and support to schools.
  • Offering professional development training on race equality, Gypsy, Roma and Traveller culture and lifestyle.

Families can contact the service. Schools can request support for the Traveller families at their school.

What can families expect from the service?

The Traveller Education Service aims to promote strong relationships with our families. We are available to answer questions about schools or educational processes.

We use a holistic, multi-agency approach. We work with families, schools, and other professional services. We make sure all Gypsy, Roma and Traveller families can access the support they need. This ensures children and young people have the opportunity to succeed in education.
