Post 16 options, HE, UCAS and funding for CLA, help with applying for jobs

Young people have to make some very important decisions about their future when they finish school and college. They may wish to continue their education at University or they may want to work or gain qualifications on the job in a traineeship or apprenticeship.  Support and advice is available from Sutton Virtual School at each step to ensure that young people make the best next steps in their future. Watch this short film for further information.

Propel is an online tool for care leavers, providing information on the support available at colleges and universities across the UK. The website includes whether 365-day accommodation is available; what bursaries and grants are on offer; the help and support care leavers can expect; and the details of specific contacts to get in touch with at each institution.

Become, the charity that runs Propel, also provides the Care Advice Line which will be open on results day for any care leavers who have questions about higher education and what they are entitled to.

UCAS provides a specific area on their website detailing undergraduate support for care leavers, including information to help with finance, settling in, and accommodation.

Bright Light is a partnership project helping care leavers to get into Apprenticeships. They offer a range of support for young people including CV writing and interview practise.

We are working with Solent University to provide useful events, information and training for young people and their carers to support those considering Higher Education. We have already shared some useful training events directly with carers and are organising a group visit to Solent University in the near future. In the meantime, please look at these useful videos that Solent University has produced. The information relevant for applications to all UK Universities (not only Solent).
