Supporting Transitions for Children in Care and Care-Experienced Young People

Join us for this supportive in-person workshop focused on understanding and planning for transitions in both education and care placements for children in care and care-experienced young people.

Transitions can be complex and, at times, unsettling. This session will explore how changes—such as moving year groups, schools, placements, or routines—can impact children, particularly those with experiences of trauma or disrupted attachment.

Together, we will consider:

  • The different types of transitions children may experience
  • How these transitions can affect wellbeing, behaviour, and engagement
  • Practical strategies to prepare, support, and respond to change in a way that feels safe and manageable

This session is designed for adoptive parents, foster carers, kinship carers and residential staff and will provide space to reflect, share experiences, and explore realistic approaches that support positive transitions.

Our focus is on ensuring children feel prepared, supported, and understood, helping to strengthen both their emotional wellbeing and engagement in education.
