Sutton’s educational visits soared into record-breaking territory this February half term, with 28 residential trips taking place at once.
And what a global adventure it was. Alongside 12 ski trips carving their way through the slopes of Austria and Italy, our pupils set off on a variety of Phileas Fogg style adventures: They explored the futuristic buzz of Singapore, the vibrant energy of Mumbai, the colours and culture of Morocco, the geysers of Iceland, and the cities of the USA, Germany, France, and the Netherlands – not to mention several exciting UK destinations too.
All in all, 1,065 children took part, racking up an impressive 7,044 days away from home across four continents.
Behind the scenes, these adventures were made possible through a brilliantly coordinated effort between the borough’s Outdoor Education Adviser, Mick Bradshaw, and the individual school EVCs. Together, they navigated risk assessments, itineraries and lastminute challenges with the teamwork of a well-seasoned expedition crew, ensuring every journey was safe as well as enriching.
Amelia Earhart once said, “Adventure is worthwhile in itself.”
And it truly was. For the 1,065 children who took part, this half term wasn’t just about travel, it was about building confidence, stepping into new cultures and making memories that will stay with them long after their suitcases are unpacked.
