To celebrate Neurodiversity Celebration Week and World Autism Month, Cognus is hosting a programme of events designed to support families, build understanding, and promote acceptance of autism and wider neurodiversity. Throughout March and April, our teams will be offering a range of workshops and informal sessions for parents and carers, each focused on practical strategies, shared experiences, and strengthening confidence.
The Autism Support team will run a Post‑Diagnosis Parent Workshop for families who have recently received an autism diagnosis, offering guidance, reassurance, and space to ask questions. The Educational Psychology Service will explore the role of special interests in autistic wellbeing, while the Therapies Service will provide a hands‑on sensory regulation workshop where parents can try equipment and learn strategies tailored to their child’s needs. Paving the Way will also host a relaxed Coffee and Create morning, giving families the chance to meet the team, explore resources, and connect with others.
To bring everyone together, Cognus will also host the Sutton Autism Family Event on 1 April — a friendly, inclusive celebration open to autistic children, siblings, and wider family members. Together, these events aim to create a supportive community where neurodivergent children and young people feel understood, valued, and able to thrive.
