Cognus Education Safeguarding Team hold Primary to Secondary transfer of safeguarding information event

Cognus Education Safeguarding Team hold Primary to Secondary transfer of safeguarding information event at The Chaucer Centre

On 29th June 2023, the Education Safeguarding Team held a Primary to Secondary transfer of safeguarding information event at The Chaucer Centre.

‘It is so reassuring to meet one another face-to-face and share vital safeguarding information that will help to support the child in their next chapter’ (Primary DSL, June 2023).

We had 39 primary schools in attendance and 13 secondary schools.  For those that were unable to make it, follow up meetings to share the safeguarding files were arranged.

‘It helped to be able to have a discussion with the DSL as well as just receiving a file.  We were able to find out more about how to best support the families going forward’ (Secondary DSL, June 2023).

When sharing safeguarding information, it is important to do this before the child starts at the new school so that the necessary support can be put in place.  In rare circumstances where this is not possible, the information must be shared within 5 days of the child starting on roll.

It is also important to share safeguarding information for young people aged 16 and over.
