Autism Leads in Schools Role
Want to be your school’s Autism Lead?

❤️Purpose of Role ❤️
The Autism Lead champions inclusion for autistic students, sharing knowledge, strategies, and lived experience to strengthen whole-school practice and ensure every learner can thrive.

💙Key Responsibilities 💙

  • Engage & Represent: Attend face-to-face training and meetings; contribute lived experience and practical examples; support development of inclusive practice.
  • Disseminate & Communicate: Share updates, resources, and strategies with staff; promote inclusive language and guidance; act as a key contact.
  • Support Students: Champion inclusion; collaborate with staff to implement strategies; foster an environment where autistic students thrive.
  • Develop Professionally: Stay informed on best practice, legislation, and guidance; model reflective practice and support colleagues.

✅Attend termly training
✅Shadow advisory visits where possible
✅Disseminate strategies across staff team and gather feedback
✅Share own resources
✅Visit other provisions where possible

⭐Outcomes: Increased confidence and knowledge; access to practical tools and resources; stronger whole-school inclusion. ⭐

If you work at a Sutton school, your place could be fully funded! If you are an independent school or your school is outside of the London Borough of Sutton, you can join for £50 per session.

Cognus Autism Support are hosting an online workshop for parents and carers of autistic children and young people in Sutton. It will take place on Thursday 13th November from 5-6 pm.

The 1 hour Zoom workshop will cover:

  • What autism is
  • Adapting communication
  • Strategies to support needs
  • Signposting services

Once you have completed the form, please assume that you are booked on. Once the course is full we will close this form and send out the Zoom link by Wednesday 12th November 2025, ahead of the session.

We aim to run these on a termly basis, so please keep looking at our social media channels to sign up to future events (Twitter: @cognus_autism, Facebook: ‘Sutton Autism Service’). If you are a parent or carer on a waiting list for assessment, we will be running a workshop for parents and carers awaiting an assessment after Christmas.
