Coffee Morning for Parent/Carers of Deaf Children and Young People in Sutton

On Friday 19th June 2026, a coffee morning organised by Hearing and Vision Education Services (Cognus Ltd) and supported by Speech and Language Therapy was hosted by Rushy Meadow Primary School

The event gave families a valuable opportunity to meet and connect with one another in a relaxed and supportive environment. Parent/carers were able to chat with a parent of an older deaf child, gaining insight from their experiences. Parent/carers also had the chance to speak with professionals on hand to offer information, advice, and support. This included two Qualified Teachers of the Deaf, a Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist and a Deaf Tutor.

It was a wonderful morning of sharing experiences, building connections, and strengthening our local deaf community. It was also a great opportunity to showcase Rushy Meadow Primary School, home to our Hearing Support base for primary aged deaf children, and to make parents aware of this option for their child’s education, with the specialist support available there.

Want to get involved? If you know of any deaf students who could benefit from support from the HaVES team, or families who would like to attend a future coffee morning, please get in touch with the HaVES team by emailing: haves@cognus.org.uk
