How we work
Paving the Way is a multidisciplinary team commissioned by Sutton Local Authority to support children and young people experiencing challenges in areas such as:
- Anxiety
- Social communication
- Attention and concentration
- Emotional regulation
Referrals to Paving the Way are made through schools. When a child is showing signs of difficulty and additional advice or support is needed, schools (in collaboration with parents/carers) can initiate a referral.
Once a referral is submitted, it may be reviewed by a panel to determine whether Paving the Way is the most appropriate service to meet the child’s individual needs. If not, the panel may signpost to a more suitable service as well as strategies provided.
Once the referral is accepted:
- The child is placed on a waiting list
- Once assigned a case worker, the school will contact the family to arrange an initial meeting.
- This meeting includes gathering a full developmental history from parents/carers and schools
- This will outline the next steps for support and intervention
