100% Satisfaction with the Education Safeguarding Team

We are delighted to share the results of the Education Safeguarding Team’s latest stakeholder survey. An impressive 100% of schools reported that they are either ‘Very Satisfied’ (53/61) or ‘Satisfied’ (8/61) with the service they receive.

An over-arching theme from the feedback: schools consistently highlighted the quality and uniqueness of Sutton’s safeguarding model when compared to other boroughs. As one respondent shared:

The team are fantastic, and we are lucky to have them as a resource in Sutton as other boroughs do not have the same offer.

Another reflected on their wider experience, noting:

Having worked in other boroughs I would like to say that Safeguarding in Sutton is extremely good. DSLs are well supported by the Education Safeguarding and the MASH team who are approachable, professional, knowledgeable and understanding.

One went even further, expressing a desire to see Sutton’s model shared more widely:

I wish the Education Safeguarding Team could help share and create their model in other local authorities.  We would be lost without them.

So what makes our model so effective?

With five dedicated professionals, each bringing complementary expertise, the team works collectively to provide a rich, joined-up offer for schools, connecting insights from CFCS calls, safeguarding reviews, training and day-to-day support.

Gill Bush, Education Safeguarding Navigator, is our frontline eyes and ears. Working closely with CFCS and DSLs enables her to identify trends in concerns and referrals that can swiftly be addressed in training, network meetings and updates. This ensures schools receive support that is timely, relevant and firmly grounded in what is happening locally.

Stephen Welding and Lina Del Grosso, Training and Review Advisers, build on these insights to design high-quality training resources and deliver clear, supportive updates through monthly briefings and termly network meetings. Our safeguarding reviews celebrate strong practice, encourage shared learning and provide bespoke guidance tailored to each school’s individual safeguarding priorities.

Mick Bradshaw, Outdoor Education Adviser, brings a wealth of experience and specialist knowledge, supporting schools with the complexities of extra-curricular visits and ensuring all children can participate safely.

At the heart of it all is our inspirational Education Safeguarding Manager, Hayley Cameron. Her authenticity, empathy and values underpin everything the team does. She consistently reminds us that DSLs are ‘human first’ and that the most effective support comes from a place of non-judgemental understanding. Her Reflective Safeguarding Supervision offer has exceeded expectations, providing vital space and support for DSLs to look after their own wellbeing.
