Education Safeguarding Team hold Primary to Secondary transfer of safeguarding information event

On 24th June 2025, the Education Safeguarding Team held a Primary to Secondary transfer of safeguarding information event at Holy Trinity Church in Wallington.

This is the first time I have been to this event, and I wasn’t sure what to expect.  So invaluable – the discussions, the sharing of information and the networking – I like how the safeguarding team make themselves available to answer our questions too

(Primary DSL, June 2025).

We had 34 primary schools in attendance and 14 secondary schools.  For those that were unable to make it, follow up meetings to share the safeguarding files were arranged.  We also had an independent primary school come and share information as well as Robyn Schofield who promoted Sutton’s Local Offer.

The event was well organised, and I am loving the new location. I can’t stress enough the importance of the conversations had today – making sure the young people are supported and understood

(Secondary DSL, June 2025).

When sharing safeguarding information, it is important to do this before the child starts at the new school so that the necessary support can be put in place.  In rare circumstances where this is not possible, the information must be shared within 5 days of the child starting on roll.

It is also important to share safeguarding information for young people aged 16 and over.
