In the Summer term, 78% (56/72) of our settings attended the Early Years and PVI Designated Safeguarding Lead Update Sessions.
For 2025-2026, 63% of our PVI settings attended the training.
In the Summer term, 66% (27/41) of our schools attended the Primary Designated Safeguarding Lead Update Sessions.
For 2025-2026, 93% of our primary schools attended our training.
In the Summer term, 87% (13/15) of our schools attended the Secondary Designated Safeguarding Lead Update Sessions.
For 2025-2026, 100% of our secondary schools attended our training.
In the Summer term, 67% (4/6) of our Special Schools/PRUs, attended the Designated Safeguarding Lead Update Sessions.
For 2025-2026, 100% of our Special Schools/PRUs attended our training.
In the Summer term, 83% (5/6) of the independent schools in Sutton attended the Designated Safeguarding Lead Update Sessions.

For those schools and settings that were unable to attend these meetings, a follow up email was shared by the Education Safeguarding Manager/CPD Admin Assistant, so that they were still able to access the resources and information discussed.

During the summer sessions, there were 28 key speakers sharing a range of materials on emotional health and well-being, Policing in Sutton, Prevent, Online Safety, Cyber Security, NSPCC resources, early help services, CFCS demand and referrals, Families First Programme, safeguarding and send, the LADO process, consent, domestic abuse, risks in the local area, alongside future training opportunities e.g., CSA, trauma informed practice and substance misuse.
These sessions help to provide our DSLs with the ‘Sutton’ context and are a great way of building our network and liaising with multi-agency partners. Even if you are part of a wider safeguarding chain, we would highly recommend that you come along.
The summer break is not always an easy time for our families for a variety of different reasons. We want to ensure that our schools feel supported in managing this time, as well as feeling confident in being able to signpost families to the relevant services where needed. The Education Safeguarding Team aim to make this time a little easier on our children and young people and for families and Designated Safeguarding Leads to realise that they are not alone.
