Welcome information – Education Safeguarding

Meeting our service

The Education Safeguarding Team provides training and support for schools and educational settings. This enables them to meet their safeguarding duties set out in government guidance.

Families and young people will work directly with the Education Safeguarding Team in the case of a Child Missing Education (CME).

A child missing education is a child of school age not on a school roll or receiving education through other means (e.g., home educated or receiving paid for tuition). If your child is not attending school, contact the school attendance officer for advice or support.

What can families expect from the service?

When a child is registered as CME, our CME Officer will make contact. They will gather information about the child’s education situation. We may ask you to provide evidence, or we may arrange to visit you at home.

If you are living in Sutton and no education is in place, we will support you. We will usually engage with a school unless you are providing the education yourself. If you do not make arrangements for education, we may have to take further action to support this.

How do I gain support if I have a question?

If you have any questions about Children Missing Education please contact CME@cognus.org.uk

If you have a safeguarding concern about a child, contact the Designated Safeguarding Lead or Headteacher at your child’s place of education in the first instance. You should also contact the Children’s First Contact Service in Sutton. If you are concerned that a child is in immediate danger, please call 999.
