Mental Health Support Team (MHST)

The MHST (Mental Health Support Team) provides health support services within the school setting to a range of schools who are part of the cluster. The team is a collaboration between professionals from the Educational Psychology Service and Sutton CAMHS and sits within the wider Education Wellbeing Service. The MHST aims to enhance emotional well-being and mental resilience of individuals within specific schools in Sutton.

Comprised of a multidisciplinary team, MHST brings together expertise from various fields, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mental health support, drama therapy and art psychotherapy. This diverse blend of professionals allows MHST to offer a holistic approach to mental health support, addressing the unique needs and challenges faced by students, educators, and families alike.

Within the MHST, our primary goal is to foster a nurturing environment where individuals feel safe to express themselves and seek assistance for their mental health concerns. Through evidence-based practices, tailored interventions, and empathetic guidance, our team work to empower individuals to navigate life’s complexities with resilience and confidence. Whether it’s providing one-on-one or group therapy support, delivering psychoeducation workshops, or collaborating with school staff to implement proactive mental health strategies, MHST is committed to promoting psychological well-being and creating a supportive culture within educational settings.

By bridging the gap between education and mental health care, MHST endeavours to not only address immediate mental health needs but also cultivate a culture of understanding, acceptance, and resilience that benefits the community in Sutton.
