Virtual Headteacher completes Virtual London Marathon
Kate Leyshon, Sutton Virtual Headteacher completed the 26.2 miles of the Virtual London Marathon to raise awareness of the importance of healthy active lifestyles for our young people. Please watch the short video. The event raised over £1000 which will be used to put on some sports based enrichment activities in the new year.

Financial Literacy for Children and Young People!
We are extremely proud to be encouraging children and young people to develop their financial literacy knowledge with the introduction of Money Ready as part of our Aspire Life Skills programme, which is available for all of our KS2 to KS5 learners. A special mention goes out to NC, JB, SR, JT, CH, DS and AK who completed the course in the Autumn Term. They will all receive a £20 Amazon voucher for their excellent effort!
Kings Maths School Opportunity
Last term we had the opportunity for some of our gifted mathematicians in KS3 and KS4 to participate in an 8-week Maths programme with Kings Maths School (part of Kings College University). VR participated and it was noted by Wavell Blades – Education Consultant at Kings, that “she has worked really hard and been very engaged” well done VR!
NEET Online Development Sessions
In December some of or NEET young people took part in 2 online sessions which were led by Project 4 Youth Empowerment. These sessions focused on goal setting, planning for the future and motivation. Young people also had the opportunity to meet a variety of professionals and take part in a Q & A session. Well done to those who participated, we are sure that with such thought-provoking sessions they are ready to embrace 2021 positively!
Amazing Achievements!
Congratulations to SD-F for continuing to successfully help with activity sessions for younger students at the gym – Keep up the good work! Well done to AC for successfully passing the 11+ exam – an amazing achievement! A special recognition also goes out to NF for successfully achieving her second rosette!
Black History Month literacy initiative
In October, Sutton Virtual School and Children in Care Council joined together to encourage children looked after to ‘Dream Big, Try Hard and Shine Bright’ as part of celebrations for Black History Month. A book was purchased for each child, using Pupil Premium Plus funding from a selection especially chosen to educate and inspire readers including ‘Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes’ by Mem Fox, ‘Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History’ by Vashti Harrison and ‘Young, Gifted and Black’ by Jamia Wilson. This is a further example of Sutton Virtual School supporting the educational development of both literacy and cultural capital. In total 144 books were packed and sent out in the post, along with letters for foster carers with tips to promote reading and leaflets
